Chegg.org Global Student Prize

Apollo Strategic Communications

Students throughout the world during the pandemic have shown great strength, focus and determination to keep learning and keep fighting for their future. At the same time, these students will now be charged with helping to solve some of the greatest challenges in history – from climate change to global inequality to global pandemics.

In direct response to this, alongside our clients, the Varkey Foundation and Chegg.org, Apollo Strategic Communications developed the idea of a new Global Student Prize, a $100,000 sister award to the Global Teacher Prize, to highlight the achievements of extraordinary students around the world who are making a real impact on learning, the lives of their peers and on society beyond. Crucially, it was launched to give students a powerful new voice with the most influential people in education and beyond.

We have secured thousands of pieces of media coverage in the prize’s inaugural year, enabling the finalists to meet with influential decision-makers. For example, Argentinean President Alberto Fernández invited Top 50 finalist Maximiliano Sánchez to talk about the app he created to translate his local dialect, Wichi, into Spanish. UK finalist Elliott Lancaster met with UK Secretary of State for Education, Nadhim Zahawi, to discuss his work promoting sustainability. Ana Júlia Monteiro has worked with Brazil’s Secretary of Education to bring robotics to public schools.

The winner, Jeremiah Thoronka, has been congratulated by the Sierra Leonean President. The World Economic Forum also highlighted Jeremiah’s win in a video which they released on their social media channels.
