Sickle Cell disease is the fastest growing genetic disorder in the UK, disproportionately affecting people of Black heritage. With 250 blood donations now needed every single day to treat the illness, up from 150 donations five years ago, NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) urgently needed more Black Heritage donors who are more likely to have the rare blood subtypes vital for patient transfusions which will keep them alive.
